Sony Digital Camera DSC-S500 Turns Off. How do I fix it?

I’ve seen this problem reported by many users of Sony Digital cameras. Many Sony Digicams switch off, when you try to turn it on - the camera simply displays cybershot, then the access light blinks for a moment & then the camera turns off.

This problem of switching off automatically, or turning off is noticed not only in cybershot DSC-S500 model, but also in models like Sony Cybershot DSC-W55, DSC-W170 et.al.

Most people try replacing their batteries with new ones, but still find the problem persist. Infact, someone had mentioned that this problem is a manufacturing / design defect of Sony in one of the forums. No definitely not! People hearing such stuff, have stopped trying to fix their camera!

Now, the solution to the problem is rather simple. Most probably you’re using a lead battery instead of alkaline battery.  Though both lead & alkaline batteries may be of the same voltage rating (1.5v), the difference lies in the ampere rating. Sony Digicams need the power of alkaline batterie. So, just go on - replace your NEW batteries with alkaline batteries!

Asus EEEPC netbooks have become extremely popular in the last 1 year.  Consequently EEEPC has had tough competition from the likes of Acer AspireOne, MSI Wind. In a short span of time, Asus has released various models, with the latest ones being very powerful in their operations & are much more than a Netbook - Asus EEEPC 1000H, EEEPC 1000, EEEPC 8G, EEEPC 4G Surf, EEEPC 700, 701, 900, EEEPC 901 are some of the models to which the below method can be used.

Many people buy EEEPC with the inbuilt Linux OS, but then realise that Linux isn’t suitable for them. The fact that the EEEPC doesn’t come with in-built CD or DVD drive makes matters worse still.

The simple way to install Windows XP on EEEPC laptop is by using an external CD drive (or DVD drive). Fortunately the EEEPC is bootable from USB, so all you need to do is

  1. Connect External DVD / CD Drive to Power supply
  2. Connect External DVD / CD Drive to USB port of the EEEPC
  3. Boot your EEEPC from the External Drive.

Some people may not be familiar with External DVD/CD drives. It is easy & cheap to get one. In many countries, if you already have a normal DVD drive, all you need to get is a casing. The Normal Drive is put inside this “casing” & you get the External drive which can be used to install Windows XP!
